Definition

For p2p \geq 2 a prime number, the quotient /p\mathbb{Z}/p\mathbb{Z} of the ring of integers by pp is a finite field denoted 𝔽 p\mathbb{F}_p, a prime field.

Prime fields have positive characteristic.

Every prime field is a prime power local ring with trivial nilradical.

Properties

Analogy with knots/prime geodesics

The spectra of prime fields inside Spec(Z) are analogous to knots/prime geodesics inside a (hyperbolic) 3-dimensional space, see at Spec(Z) – As a 3-dimensional space containing knots
